Hey all!
Hope everyone's doing well.
I've just been looking at the Cisco Academy for the Visually-Impaired, and was wondering if anyone has done any courses with them?
If so, are they any good? I'm considering the 'basics of Microsoft Word' because it's been ages since I did any type of proper training, and I've recently lost my job so I figure now is a good time to get going on this stuff.
Thoughts appreciated! Thank you :)
Hello,
The course I took from them was taught very professionally, and the content was most definitely worth the money. I've not looked in to the particular course, you've mentioned, but if it teaches a reasonable set of skills, that would assist you, then I'd say it's worth it.
HTH.
Hi,
I took a CAVI course on HTML last year and found it to be worthwhile. There
are a few things that you may want to bear in mind.
Some of their courses are Cisco accredited and you sit an exam for them.
However, these tend to be the networking courses, so if you want formal
accreditation rather than just a certificate of completion or a letter of reference,
this may not be the route for you.
Are you a Windows user? If so, then CAVI may be a good option. Their Mac
capability is limited. I assume you probably use Windows given you're
interested in Word, but thought I'd check as Word does exist on the Mac.
Timings may be tricky for you in Dublin. There was an HTML class schedule for
a time convenient to UK/European students, but if there isn't, you'll either find
yourself attending in the middle of the night or learning from the podcast feeds
that they post. However, you'll still have access to the instructors even if you
just listen to the Podcasts.
Finally, if you arrive late, you'll have to sing the Fields of Athenry. Ok so I
made that last one up.
Hey,
I'm currently taking a course from CAVI. I feel like I'm getting a lot out of it.
if you want to know more about my experience, shoot me a private message. I would be more than happy to talk with you about this.
Hey all :)
BigDogDaddy: thanks!
Ed_G: thanks, I hadn't thought of that - I'd like to get something with an accreditation, for employers and that, so I'll definitely have a look at that in more detail.
Oh, and I'll bear it in mind about the singing... haha!
Green Turtle: thank you for that offer, I'll definitely message you about that.
Really appreciate all the help as always!
